Freestyle.... (Part 1)

The other day i was watching one of them documentary type of DVD's called "16 Bars. It got me to thinking about JAYmatic's blogs about who he thinks was the rapper and what he feels is Hip-Hop. To be honest....Hip-Hop is dead. Shit been dead for a minute now. Let me regain my train of thought....lol. That's a whole other blog right there. While I was watching the DVD, it made me think....Who was the best freestyle MC's to ever touch the mic. Of course this is who I think deserves to receive that nod.

Without further ado, in no particular order....

MC Juice is a famed freestyle rapper from Chicago. Known for his stinging punchlines and crafty wordplay, MC Juice has battled some big names in Hip Hop. His famed battle with Eminem in 1997 at the Scribble Jam is testimony to that. I remember in high school listening to one of his songs called "Freestlye or Written." To this day....I don't know if he wrote that song or freestyled it. Listening to the song you can tell he was coming off the top.

Supernatural is by far one of the best freestyle rappers in the world. He broke the record for longest freesyle rap....over 9 hours straight. His battles with 3 other MC's on my list still ring bells in the underground. He's had classic battles with MC Juice, Eminem, and Craig G. If you mention freestyle rap to a Hip-Hop head....Supernat will definitely be brought up.

Craig G is one of Hip-Hop's legends. Handing Supernatural on of his very few defeats, Craig G is known for being one of the original members of The Juice Crew. With a knack for finding out info and using it against you in a battle, he took freestlying and battle rap to a whole new level. He also wrote the majority of the battle raps in the movie "8 Mile."

Eminem a.k.a. Slim Shady is not only one of the sickest freestyle rappers, he also is one of the most successful rappers ever. He gained fame battling MC Juice on "The Wake Up Show" and he's battled countless MC's on his way to the top. The movie "8 Mile" was based off his life in his rise to legend status in Detroit's streets. Plain and simple....you do not want to be on the receiving end of his freestlye. PERIOD.

Cassidy destroyed Freeway in this battle after Jay Z kinda instigated this battle. Rumor has it....Hov was talking shit saying Cassidy wasn't all that good. Cassidy in turn said, "Bring anyone from your crew and I'll bite their head off." So Hov brought fellow Philly native Freeway. Just look what he did to him.

Say what you want about Can-I-Bus....but the man could flow. It's unfortunate that LL Cool J singlehandedly destroyed his career, but it is what it is. Can-I had the delivery of a pit bull and his rhymes were always on point.

Repping the Left Coast....Ras Kass. To hear him freestyle is a rare occurrence. But when you do....this Left Coaster brings a fury like no other. Besides....who do you know that can be on the run from authorities and drop a mixtape called "Catch Me If You Can"

Killer Mike is one of my favorite MC's and to me....one of the most underrated MC's out there. He earned his name "Killer" when he went through over 70 MC's in one night....rather decisively.

"Blastmaster KRS I don't talk shit..." Anyone who doesn't see the contributions this man has made to advancing the culture is not a Hip-Hop fan. His ability to freestyle about today's problems puts him in a league of his own. His famous battle with Queens MC Shan and pretty much all of Queens will for ever go down in history as one of the best rap battles ever.

The one and only big homie.....Hov. Whenever you just step in a booth and let off lyrics....something is to be said about the caliber MC you are. Sean carter has been entertaining us and supplying us with consistent shit. I don't know what to say about "American Gangster" and I know his newest record slated to drop sometime soon will be insane. Not one to shy away from a battle....Jay Z and DMX went toe to toe in a Yonkers Pool Hall for 30 minutes. From what I've heard....it was a draw.
